Technical Quality Regulation (RTQ) and the Quality Requirements Conformity Assessment (RAC) for Toys This addendum aims to inform that the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology - INMETRO, issued Draft Ordinance No. 217, of 18 June 2020, which proposes to make adjustments in order to clarify the excerpts from the Technical Quality Regulation (RTQ) and the Quality Requirements Conformity Assessment (RAC) for Toys, established by Ordinance Inmetro No. 563, of 29 December 2016. The Draft Normative Instruction No. 217, 18 June 2020 – previously notified through G/TBT/N/BRA/612/Add.1 – amends Inmetro Ordinance No. 563 of 29 December 2016, which approves the Technical Regulation and Conformity Assessment Requirements for Toys. This Ordinance establishes that from 1 January 2022, national manufacturers and importers shall manufacture or import, for the domestic market, only toys in accordance with Ordinance No. 217 requirements. From 1 January 2023, manufacturers and importers should market, on the domestic market, only toys in accordance with Ordinance No. 217 requirements. From 1 July 2025, shops and distributors should market, on the domestic market, only toys in accordance with Ordinance No. 217 requirements. Inmetro Ordinance 217, of 18 June 2020 revokes Inmetro Ordinance No. 598 of 26 December 2018. This regulation enters into force on the day of publication in Brazilian Official Gazette.
